There are many high school students who have such talent that they have been told that they could graduate from high school and go immediately to work as a graphic artist. While that may be true, it would actually be a shame, because their education would end right there. Most young artists feel a college education is a waste of time and money. After all, they already have the skills they need, so why do they need to take nonsense classes like psychology and biology in order to get a degree they will never use? Well, that is a mistake. They may need that degree one day, and in the meantime, the other skills they learn in college will only help to make them more valuable employees.
Not all graphic design college programs are worth the price, because they are primarily vocational programs that teach just enough to place a student in a job. If you want the best for your student, then you need to choose a program that offers a real degree and is from an accredited college, so that no matter what they decide to do later in life, they will always have that degree to fall back on.
