Pursuing a design degree prepares students for a graphic design career. Graphic designers use computer technology to combine images, words, and design elements for advertisements, publications, web sites and more. Depending on their position, graphic designers may create layouts for magazines and newspapers; design web pages and multimedia projects; create promotional marketing materials and packaging; or design corporate logos and letterhead.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the demand for graphic designers will grow 10%-20% through the year 2012. Students planning a career in this fast growing field have several educational options. They may complete a certificate program or earn an associate or Bachelor degree. The type of training a student chooses depends on his scholastic aptitude, artistic talent, and career goals. However, the more educated a candidate is, the more opportunities he will have.
