An Associate degree candidate is guaranteed a larger salary and a greater chance of promotion than his non-degreed peers.
An Associate degree is an academic degree awarded to students who complete two years or a minimum of sixty semester hours in an organized program of study. These degrees, which are earned at community and junior colleges, fall into two categories; transfer degrees and professional degrees.
As the name implies, transfer degrees allow students to complete all of the general education requirements for a Bachelor’s degree at a community or junior college. They are earned with the intention of transferring to a four-year college or university. Transfer degrees include an Associate of Arts for students majoring in humanities or social sciences; an Associate of Science for students majoring in mathematics, science, or technology; an Associate of Fine Arts for students majoring in music, theatre, or art; an Associate of Arts in Teaching for students majoring in education.
The second type of Associate degree is the professional degree. Professional degrees are career oriented and involve fewer general education requirements and more concentrated subject driven course work. Upon completing a professional degree, students can enter the workforce. Among the professional degrees offered are an Associate of Applied Science and an Associate of Business Administration.
