A degree in economics is very flexible in both scope and application. Students of economics can study at the associate, undergraduate, and graduate levels. Many degree programs include classes in microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, and the history of economic thought. Programs may also include courses in mathematics, computer science, statistics, and survey design.
This course of study trains economics students to be problem solvers. By studying subjects such as demand theory, market structure, and unemployment, students are able to identify problems and use critical thought to solve them. In addition to critical thinking, students also become proficient in computer technology and effective communication. These skills make them highly marketable in today’s business market. With a degree in economics, students may qualify for business management, public administration, sales, insurance, financial analysis, research, and teaching positions.
