A degree in early childhood education prepares students to work with children from birth to age eight in a variety of capacities. Individuals with a certificate or associate degree may hold childcare or preschool teaching positions. Those interested in teaching elementary school must have at least a bachelor’s degree, and a master’s or doctorate prepares students to become school administrators.

Students at all degree levels take classes in childhood growth and development, and learning theory and application. In addition, undergraduate programs include a variety of education specific classes; graduate programs often explore the role of technology in education; and doctorate programs focus on the research and development of educational theories and practices.
