Degree Modes
A degree in counseling prepares students to guide others through personal, social, and mental dilemmas. There are a variety of specialties within the field of counseling including school and career counseling, rehabilitation, marriage and family therapy, gerontology, substance abuse counseling, and mental health therapy.
Most states require that counselors receive a master’s degree before they are able to practice. In preparation for this, some individuals choose to earn an undergraduate degree in counseling, while others opt for a complimentary degree such as psychology, social work, or sociology. In addition to these choices, students have the option of pursuing a bachelor, master, or doctorate degree in counseling either through a traditional university or a distance learning program.
