Aviation is a fast growing field with many opportunities. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2004 there were over 515,000 jobs in the field of aviation. These jobs include flight instructor, corporate and commercial pilot, military aviation operations and air traffic controller.
Students of aviation can pursue an associate’s degree, which offers them basic aviation instruction or they can combine flight training and aviation academics to earn a bachelor’s degree. Students at this level also study flight operations; aircraft and facility maintenance; and air traffic control. In addition, existing aviation professionals also have the option of earning a master’s degree, which includes detailed instruction in accident investigation procedure and weather phenomena.
