A degree in mathematics prepares students for a number of exciting careers. These include positions in the fields of education, science, research, statistics, and actuarial science. Many graduates become high school teachers, college professors or work in research. Others become actuaries, assessing and analyzing risk and for insurance companies or statisticians who collect and interpret numerical data.
While math may be considered merely the study of numbers, one of the most important skills a mathematician can possess is the ability to effectively convey complex theories. Therefore, in addition to courses in mathematics, science, and information technology, students are also required to take communication classes.
