A law degree is a higher education degree that prepares students for a career in criminal justice. Most students who pursue a law degree become lawyers, although many politicians, investment bankers, and professors also go to law school. To attend law school, students must complete an undergraduate degree and obtain a satisfactory score on the Law School Admission Test (LSAT).
While some colleges and universities offer a pre-law degree, it is not required. In fact, many students choose to pursue an alternative discipline that compliments their interest in law. Examples of this include political science, business, criminal justice, international relations, and history. Individuals who complete law school earn a Juris Doctor degree, which makes them eligible to take the bar exam and if they pass, practice law.
